Letter from the Superintendent- 6/29/2020

Dear Cottonwood parents,

Although things can and may very well change before school starts back on August 13th, I want you to know that it is the intent of the Cottonwood Union School District to start school as normal with students in the seats and face to face teaching in the classrooms. Of course we will put measures in place to make it as safe as possible for returning students such as intensified cleaning, cafeteria protocols and placement of hand sanitizing stations to name a few.

We were not going to require students to wear masks except those riding on school buses, however with the Governor’s new mandate it appears the state may require masks in classrooms as well. We are looking for clarification on that issue which could be rescinded before school starts anyway. With the fluidity of this situation, things change on a daily basis. I want to keep you informed, but I do not want to inundate you with daily changes. So please look for another letter with updates around the middle of July.

I realize that some parents may not feel comfortable with their students returning to classrooms when we open in August and may choose to continue schooling at home. The district will have a home study / independent study type of a program available for those parents wishing to continue distance learning.

Even amid all of this COVID craziness, please try to have a wonderful summer and remember the district is working hard to provide your children with the safest and best possible learning experience we can. Stay safe, healthy and have a wonderful Fourth of July!!!

Sincerely,

Doug Geren
